Well, who couldn't use more bliss? It seemed to be the perfect gift idea for my sissy's birthday last week. Now it just so happens (short of me showing up on her doorstep for a surprise visit) that I would have a difficult time wrapping up "bliss"  and have it to delivered to Queens. So it had to be carried on a canvas.

This is a dimensional mixed media piece I did for her, which tunes into a moment in time when I know she experienced bliss. Both photos are from her wedding. She looked like a modern Audrey Hepburn and - how perfect -  her husband had a bouquet of flowers and a Tiffany's necklace delivered to her the morning of their wedding. So romantic! That guy is a keeper.

My assignment for you: Whether it be five minutes of peace from the kids or indulging in the best Californian BLT, treat yourself to some bliss today!

Bliss out,

So Fresh So Simple

In cleaning out digital files, I ran across this photo taken at Jocelyn's birthday party last year and thought I'd share. If you ever need an easy crowd-pleaser, this one's for you. It just doesn't get better than these little babies! : )

Cuckoo for Co-Co Puffs

 The mother of those octuplets in California... She has to be out. of. her. mind!

FOURTEEN kids? Are you for real? I don't mean to judge, but, dang girl. What kind of life are you going to provide for your children? Especially in this economy. As a single mother no less.

I'm having a hard time providing for my ONE. *Shakes head* I don't get it.

May God bless you lady. You're gonna need it.

Sorry for the rant, y'all. I'm all keyed up from some design project I'm working on and I took a "break" to poke around the internet for a few moments. Only to stumble onto that updated article. Seriously though: that's some reckless procreation.

Daily Reminders

I am one of those people that finds comfort in lists, feels right as rain when things are organized and put away.

To kick off my "inspired" theme this year, I ordered the most perfect weekly planner from Papaya! - full of beautiful works of art and words of encouragement. It arrived yesterday and, my goodness, it felt like opening a special little gift. Way to go Papaya! for going the extra mile.

....the extra mile really does make all the difference in the world... it's where "it's" at.

Warm & Fuzzy Season

I must just be a sucker for these commercials, but tonight I blame it on the 15 degree temperature and the snow sprinkling....

The Sweet Liberty

 No pretty picture post today... although I wish my eyes could have recorded the beauty I've seen.

No more majestic, weather-wise, than any other day. Today I saw beautiful people.

Of all sorts of backgrounds: the soldier, the elderly couple, the inexperienced youth, the mother with her child (that was me)...

Peacefully and calmly collecting with one shared mission:

To take advantage of one of the sweetest liberties this country offers.

To let our voices be heard

You Inspire Me

Sending out a big 'Thank You' to the world at large (and you precious Eljay friends) for indulging me in your inspiring narratives, photos and artwork! So it seems Autumn is in full swing and I adore every recounted tale and shared photograph. I drove with the window down today, despite the chill, just so I could catch a few whiffs of wood burning in nearby chimneys. I love this time of the year for the sense of hearth and home it encourages.

My creative juices are revving and I have the feeling that something good will come of it. In fact I sat down to doodle last night (okay, to emulate Tula Pink's Harvest Moon Forest Owl  www.etsy.com/view_listing.php) in my journal. It felt good. Shoot, I may have even inspired myself! As an added bonus, I scored a guide to art journaling by one of my modern-day artistic heroes, Anahata Katkin (www.anahataart.com).

I have a list of projects at least a mile long, but I really must try to prioritize or I'll never get anything done. I am so setting up the sewing machine tomorrow night - Christmas presents (sweet little aprons! ~(c:) or bust!

Here's a few other things currently in queue: *hand-tinted wedding photos (aka belated wedding gifts) / *play kitchen for Christmas / *custom slip cover for my hideous but -oh-so-comfortable desk chair / *Embellished vinyl faux headboard for my bed & accents for Jocelyn's nook / * indoor fairy garden / * this year's Christmas cards...

Well,  none of it is getting done tonight. In fact I better get my fanny into bed so I may have some presence of mind at 12:30am in the event we have a repeat of Joss's freak out (yes, y'all we were up from 12:30 til 2am last night....teething: what a gift!).

Oh, but how I love her anyway!

I'm craving a pretty salad. I know, right? Who craves salad?!

I'll have to just look forward to this one in the spring (especially if I want to garnish with Johnny Jump Ups), but ran into a photo of it on my computer today and thought I'd share.

No reason why salad can't be pretty and tasty!

* Spring Greens * Mandarin Oranges * Raspberries * Strawberries * Blueberries * Pineapples * Pecans * Grilled Skinless Chicken Breast * Garnish with Pansies & Johnny Jump Ups

Serve Maple Vinaigrette Dressing on the side.

Maple Vinaigrette Dressing
* 1 teaspoon dry mustard
* 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
* 1/4 cup balsamic or good quality wine, cider or maple vinegar (I prefer red wine vinegar)
* 1/2 cup Pure Vermont Maple Syrup (Grade B has the best flavor)
* 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
* 1 clove garlic, minced
* 1 cup olive oil
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper

To Prepare:
* Combine mustard and basil in a small bowl.
* With a whisk, add vinegar, maple syrup, lemon juice and garlic.
* Add olive oil and continue whisking until ingredients are well combined. Season with salt and pepper.

A blender will emulsify and thicken the dressing

I am shamed (well, that might just be a smidge melodramatic) by my photo of the Basilica of Notre Dame from my previous post. If you have no clue of what I'm talking about, please reference photo of blurry vibrant colors.

I feel I owe it to the Basilica to acknowledge it's real beauty by sharing at least one the gorgeous photos out there by more talented (& better equipped) photographers. Because it was beyond breathtaking...

It occurred to me that I wished I could bathe myself in the colors - almost as if they were as cleansing as the Holy Water is supposed to be.
